Anyone else think 16GB of disc space is a bit much for Windows 8
Posted by: Darth-Apple - May 26th, 2013 at 6:09 PM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (15)

The more recent version of Windows have required large amounts of storage space. It is currently 16GB for the latest version of Windows. Linux, by comparison, will usually run very well on 4GB, at least for most distributions.

Does anyone else think 16GB is a bit much for a clean install?

How fast is your download speed?
Posted by: Darth-Apple - May 26th, 2013 at 5:41 PM - Forum: Web Design & Internet - Replies (25)

Personally, mine tends to be very inconsistent, but I tend to average 1-2mbps download speeds nowadays. It has thankfully been improving lately, considering I used to get around 0.6mbps just two weeks ago. Perhaps the cable company is making some upgrades.

What are yours?

  Music Thread
Posted by: That Punk Guy - May 26th, 2013 at 1:50 AM - Forum: Media & Entertainment - Replies (4)

Everyone loves music, what kind do you like? How do you get your music?

I like rock, pop, and some rap. I use a service called Rdio ( http://rdio.com ) for my music. It was created by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis, the guys behind Skype. You get 10 hours of music a month for free, but if you would like no ads and access from your mobile phone/tablet, it's $9.99 a month with no song purchasing fees. I use it mainly because I cannot afford 99 cents a pop but $10 I can do.

  Your first computer specifications
Posted by: Darth-Apple - May 25th, 2013 at 2:29 AM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (23)

What were the specifications of your first computer?

My first had a 500mhz PIII, 128MB of RAM, windows 98, and 7GB of hard drive space. I soon got a new one with a 40GB hard drive, 256MB of RAM, and 450MHZ PIII (soon upgraded to 600MHZ) and an old install of ubuntu.

What were the specifications of your first computer?

What desktop environment/Window manager do you use?
Posted by: Gmdykfuiygh66476 - May 25th, 2013 at 2:07 AM - Forum: Software - Replies (16)

As I've said before, I'm using Xfce D/E. But in the category of window managers, I like OpenBox (I've considered using CrunchBang Linux before) and ratpoison. What do you use? And you had better not say unity Tongue

  Favorite rock bands
Posted by: Darth-Apple - May 25th, 2013 at 12:32 AM - Forum: Media & Entertainment - Replies (19)

Personally, rock is one of my favorite music styles. I can listen to it all day, and it never gets old. My favorite bands have to be Triumph, red, linkin park, Rush, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, and probably several others I can't remember off the top of my head.

What are your favorite rock bands?

  AMD or Intel
Posted by: Darth-Apple - May 25th, 2013 at 12:25 AM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (39)

There has been quite a bit of fierce competition between AMD and Intel over the past years. Intel tends to build higher-performance processers, but AMD has lower prices and has been the leader in other ways, as they made 64 bit a mainstream technology and just recently have come up with the concept of the APU.

Personally, I use an AMD because it's cost-effective. What's your preference?

  New board layout
Posted by: Darth-Apple - May 24th, 2013 at 3:57 PM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

It's only two days after launch, and we're already seeing great activity here at Makestation, thanks to are awesome members here. In response, I've rearranged some of the boards to try and integrate the showcase center more with the rest of the discussions here. My hope is that the new layout will be more descriptive and that the changes will ultimately make the showcase boards feel more like the rest of the forums. We've also created the project journal's section, where you can showcase any projects that you are working on to the community.

If you have any comments, suggestions, etc..., feel free to drop a reply in this thread. We're open to hearing your feedback about the current layout. Big Grin
