what web comics have you been reading/following lately?

tell us about some of your favorites!

here are 3 of my favorites

Edison Rex
basically if lex luthor killed superman and decided to become a hero rather than a villan.

Manly guys doing manly things.
basically, it's a bunch of comics about fictional manly men doing stuff that's sorta out of character/out of their normal realm of things, sorta like how actors chill on their days off.

Guilded age
in a world where companies are corrupt the biggest MMORPG decides to try out a magic based VR and ends up getting 5 people trapped in a fantasy world which is sort of a parallel pocket universe?  you'd have to read it to understand it better.

there's more but I wanted to get the ball rolling.

Do you use VR for stuff?
Posted by: SpookyZalost - May 19th, 2017 at 10:32 AM - Forum: Other Games - Replies (2)

do you use VR in your daily life or have easy access to it?

it's a valid question now because even the common man has access to basic VR in the form of the samsung gear VR.

so do you have VR? and if so what do you use it for?

  Do you use a smartwatch?

do you use a smartwatch?

I personally use a pebble time, it's programmable, hackable, and fun to mess with, plus no DRM lol

so if you use a smart watch, what brand/setup do you use?

  Cyberpunk Disussion thread
Posted by: SpookyZalost - May 19th, 2017 at 8:55 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (8)

so I've decided to port this over from simmania for anyone interested, the following links are comprehensive in explaining and expositioning cyberpunk as a whole.
it's an entertainment medium, an intellectual curiosity, and for some a lifestyle.

What is cyberpunk
Examples of cyberpunk works
The Cyberpunk Database

now that that's all out of the way, let's begin... let's talk about cyberpunk media you are interested in, how does it affect your view of the world, or maybe just how close the cyberpunk and real worlds are?

in other words, what is cyberpunk to you?

  Hearts of Iron IV
Posted by: Guardian - May 14th, 2017 at 1:13 AM - Forum: Other Games - Replies (3)

Go through spurts playing this game, but I love it!

My current run-through with Japan, I was able to conquer China about 6 months before what could have been Pearl Harbor. Knowing the course of history, and wanting to play with it a little, I decided to accept the United States embargo of oil and look elsewhere. I invaded the Soviet Union. In another wrench thrown in, France turned communist right before Germany decided to invade, and allied with the Soviet Union. All sides were thrown in quickly when Germany invaded the Benelux regions and France. The Allies and Comintern made quick work of the Soviets. So, I've been fighting them all alone after they've been strengthened by consuming much of Eastern Europe. So far I have been able to avoid intervention from the rest of the world.

  Cyberdeck project
Posted by: SpookyZalost - May 12th, 2017 at 10:16 AM - Forum: The Others - Replies (32)

I've been working on a concept called a cyberdeck for a while now, it's sort of like a laptop only instead of a screen you have a video display that you wear and it's sorta retro-futuristic, and Cyberpunk.

as of now I have all the parts working, I'm currently looking into a case and maybe a better CPU but here's the current list of parts as of now.

Logitech Solar charged Bluetooth keyboard.

raspberry pi Zero modified with composite out.

MyVu Crystal 701 Video display glasses with composite adaptor cable.

currently it outputs a clear and easy to read terminal at 640X480 resolution, I've used it, and I'm probably going to stick with the Command line for now.

OS: Pixel OS/Raspbian for raspberry pi zero.

once I get the case I have planned for it I may upgrade to a Pi 3 but that's down the road.

already took it to work with me and was able to attach sensors and such to it and receive data on the HMD (Head Mounted Display).

let me know what you think and any ideas anyone has as to where I can go from here.

Pictures of the working unit forthcoming later today when I get off work.

  I bought a Mac
Posted by: Darth-Apple - May 10th, 2017 at 1:20 AM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (10)

Windows is nothing but a big frustration for me. My PC has Windows 10 on it, and is in desperate need of a reinstall. Buggy, slow, and a total mess to say the least. But perhaps the most frustrating aspect for me is that, being that I do not use the computer often, maybe once a month or so when I need to pay bills, every time I need to start it up I have to wait upwards of an hour oftentimes just to see automatic updates finish up before I can even use my PC.

That was the last straw. I'm going back to college to finish my degree shortly and I need something way better.

Bought a 2012 Macbook pro 13 inch, put the latest MacOS on there, and I'm up to speed and rolling. Absolutely love it. It actually works. The display resolution could be better, 1280x800 will take some getting used to, but that's absolutely 100% my only complaint. All I have to say is that I hope Mac stays around. I think I'm more or less an Apple convert for life now. Tongue

  Sprint
Posted by: Darth-Apple - May 3rd, 2017 at 2:51 AM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (1)

I was gonna buy some sprint stock about this time last year... It was running at less than four dollars a share. Mostly for one reason. Sprint actually has more spectrum than pretty much any other carrier, which means great things for 5G, but almost all of their spectrum is very high frequency, in the 2.5 GHZ range. Unfortunately, while it's great for speed and Sprint is no doubt one of the fastest under ideal circumstances, it also doesn't penetrate long distances or buildings very well. The result is fairly unreliable service and poor coverage if they are gonna depend primarily on their holdings of high frequency spectrum to build a high capacity network.

Anyway, the hype was there. And I'm kicking myself for not jumping on the gun because sprint stock has almost tripled since then.

However, T-mobile is about to have almost as good coverage as verizon, for much better prices, much better network reliability, and has more hype behind it now. And on top of that, with the disbanding of analog TV's, T-mobile just bought up a storm of spectrum in the low frequency range, which will do wonders for its network reliability and its long-range coverage. Sprint completely sat out on the auction, and isn't really doing the greatest job pulling a good force behind it as it seems. Their coverage still somewhat depends on roaming to fill in major coverage gaps, and they haven't really done a whole lot of good for their own in house network lately. On top of that they have cancelled a lot of their biggest promotions (such as the "cut your bill in half" event), which has kinda aggravated some customers whose bills are suddenly higher now.

I switched from Sprint last year and I didn't realize that good cell coverage was really a thing. Never tried T-mobile, but I'm on AT&T now, pay 40 a month for unlimited data (6 gigs of it at high speed), and unlimited talk/text, reliability and coverage is great.

Still shoulda bought stock, kinda kicking myself for that one, but I think my eyes I think are turning elsewhere for long term investments at this point. We shall see what happens with 5G... I could be wrong I suppose. Tongue
