What code editors do you use?
Posted by: Darth-Apple - January 3rd, 2023 at 8:32 PM - Forum: Software - Replies (6)

Personally, VS Code remains my "daily driver" - but I did install Geany for the times that I want something Notepad++-like. Geany is nice because it's much more lightweight for editing files that aren't a part of a project (such as a quick config change, or to draft something that is about to be copy/pasted onto a server).

What code editors do you use, and why?

  Favorite YouTube Channels
Posted by: Darth-Apple - January 2nd, 2023 at 11:13 PM - Forum: Media & Entertainment - Replies (4)

Youtube is pretty much saturated with content on just about any category these days, but there are still some very creative channels that are very entertaining and sometimes educational. I'm a big fan of Mr. Beast, Linus Tech Tips, and Practical Engineering. PBS Space Time is also very interesting, alongside a number of other educational channels.

What channels do you watch most often on YouTube?

How do you typically store your tools?
Posted by: SpookyZalost - December 31st, 2022 at 5:35 AM - Forum: Lifestyle - Replies (8)

There's tons of ways to store tools depending on the equipment!
for me I've recently been making tool rolls because they're better for organizing than toolboxes, a bit easier to carry, and make a nice tradeoff of slightly more space in exchange.
For example here's the first one I got for organizing my wrenches.  I bought that one but learned I overpaid for something that's made quite easily with a sewing machine.

It's nice because it's made of waxed canvas which is fairly durable and has tie straps I can use to secure it closed plus it fits a decent sized set of metric and imperial wrenches which I keep under the back seat of the jeep.
since then I've learned how to make my own which as it turns out is both affordable and handy.
for smaller stuff I use pouches like for my lockpicks or smaller individual tools which I keep on my bandolier.

there are cases where larger containers make sense like at a workbench but I like tool rolls personally.

so how do you guys store your tools and gear?

Do you speak any second languages?
Posted by: Darth-Apple - December 31st, 2022 at 2:01 AM - Forum: Lifestyle - Replies (5)

For me, I speak some Spanish (took three semesters of it in university and have a few hispanic friends that I could practice with). Not at an expert level by any means, still learning to an extent.

Do you speak more than one language? If so, which ones (and how did you learn)?

What forum software do you use? [Poll]
Posted by: Darth-Apple - December 29th, 2022 at 10:13 PM - Forum: Forum Administration / Development - Replies (4)

Figured I'd create a poll to see how popular different forum softwares were around here. As most of you know, Makestation is on MyBB (a popular choice, even in 2022). Several others exist, and this will give us a chance to have a long-term poll to see the popularity of different options.

If yours isn't on the list, feel free to comment below!

  Forum Community Development Section
Posted by: Darth-Apple - December 29th, 2022 at 9:26 PM - Forum: Forum Administration / Development - Replies (2)

Hello all,

We have a number of members here who have their own websites and communities. We consider this a type of "creative arts" - so we've always been very welcoming for users who want to promote their designs, websites, and communities.

Being that a number of our members have projects in this arena, we're creating a new section to discuss general forum administration and community development. Feel free to create topics to collaborate with other members as well, or to discuss forum administration/community development in general! We are playing this section by ear, and will expand it and change it as needed, so feel free to get creative!

(Note that we have an official Other Communities section for promotion of your communities. If you're creating a promotional thread, see this section!)
