  new site for dog lovers
Posted by: Agandl - October 10th, 2013 at 2:40 PM - Forum: Other Communites & Promotion - Replies (8)

I have been working with a couple of friends on a forum for terrier enthusiast. I would love to know what people think of it - we have been 'open for business' for 8days now.

  Do you trust firmware updates?
Posted by: Darth-Apple - October 10th, 2013 at 1:52 AM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (12)

Back before my video card got fried, Nvidia kept pushing a major fix towards their firmware in the card. From what I had heard, the fix rendered the card useless, so I never used it (thankfully).

I've found that many firmware updates aren't properly tested, and can thus ruin hardware. Do you ever trust "important" firmware updates?

Anyone want to beta test Makestation's new theme?
Posted by: Darth-Apple - October 5th, 2013 at 11:05 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (9)

I'm currently designing a new theme for Makestation. It looks very similar to our current default theme, but with some minor modifications and a slightly more modern look. Don't worry, it's not going to be yet another giant design overhaul, but it will be a more refurbished update. Big Grin

Anyway, I'm hoping to get some feedback on it before I push it to the default theme. It is currently not finished, but most of the major changes have already been made, and it's just down to details now.

If you're interested in helping test, feel free to go to your User CP and under "Board Style" change the theme to "SubMatrix," and don't forget to leave your feedback here! Any comments, bug reports, or suggestions will be much appreciated! Big Grin

Have you ever given up on a website or forum?
Posted by: Darth-Apple - October 5th, 2013 at 1:20 AM - Forum: Web Design & Internet - Replies (2)

I remember my first legitimate website (not my actual first), which was a forum with no hope. I gave up on it after about 300 posts. I've learned a lot since then. Tongue

Have any of you guys ever given up on a forum or website before? If so, why?

Image Hosting Integration with posts via someimage.com
Posted by: Darth-Apple - October 4th, 2013 at 2:07 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (4)

Thanks to @spork985, we now have someimage.com integration for image hosting here at Makestation. You can add images to your post right in the new reply or new thread page. Just click the "show Image Upload Form" button and you will see the uploader. This only works on the full reply page, so you won't see it for the quick reply box at the bottom of threads.

This will save a lot of time as you won't have to attach files or upload to imageshack first. Big Grin

  About Monedas
Posted by: Dreadlord - October 3rd, 2013 at 6:10 AM - Forum: Community Related - Replies (2)

Firstly,

I have noticed that "Monedas" the current forum's currency does not actually have it's own box in the postbit, I think it makes the postbit look rather scruffy and the fact that it's so far down and far away from the rest of the postbit boxes, I think that this needs to be changed. I also think that you should changed it to something like "Make-Money" instead of Monedas or something related to MakeStation like "Station-Cash" or just "MS Cash". Smile

  An improved Ajax Chat
Posted by: Darth-Apple - October 2nd, 2013 at 12:50 AM - Forum: Software - Replies (7)

I found a version of Ajax chat ( https://github.com/123Haynes/enhanced-Ajax-Chat ) that included a registration system in by default. Unfortunately, it is a bit buggy and is generally not stable as well. It's a bit out of date and some things are either a mess or don't work as intended.

Thanks to it being open-source, I was able to make some modifications and debug it for a chat recently, and I now plan on patching the remaining issues up, and releasing a modified version of it. (I love open source! Tongue )

Improvements over the original Ajax Chat will include

- /away command
- Online.php file for easy integration
- Nickname Registration
- /warn Command
- Better Login Interface
- Bug Fixes
- MOTD feature?

This won't be a particularly big "release." I'm primarily basing this off of the "enhanced ajax chat" that I found on github, so the credit for the registration system will go to the enhanced ajax chat developer. My primary goal is to release a debugged and stable version with some improvements to save time for both the coders and the non coders, since the "enhanced ajax chat" isn't exactly stable, but has a great registration system when debugged.

Stay tuned! Big Grin

  Semi-Original - Original Niche Brainistorming
Posted by: Dreadlord - October 1st, 2013 at 11:26 AM - Forum: Launchpad - Replies (3)

Hey everyone,

So I've currently tested out a few niche's for a forum that don't really work because there are too many of it's kind. So I'm trying to brainstorm a few original niche's for me to attempt. It will of course be a hard job because it also has to be something I'm interested in and something that other people will be interested in. As I post ideas I'd love some feedback if possible and feel free to throw in some idea's if you want. Smile

I will be posting replies to this thread as I get more and more idea's, as I get a few narrowed down I will add a poll and see which idea you guys like the most.

I like/enjoy

-Playing Call Of Duty.
-Playing Battlefield.
-Playing Rockstar Games.
-Playing Dead Island.
-Overall using the Xbox.
-Phones.
-Pets.
-Programming.
-Roleplaying.
-Politics (A little).
-All around technology.
-Playing various sports.

If you want to know about anything else I like please do feel free to reply to me asking, I will try to respond to you as soon as possible. Smile

  US government shutdown?
Posted by: Darth-Apple - September 30th, 2013 at 11:35 PM - Forum: Current Events - Replies (9)

The government literally has just over four hours to pass a budget before it faces yet another shutdown. Due to obamacare being on the table this time, I doubt it will be a short shutdown personally.

What are your thoughts about this situation?

  Some Updates
Posted by: Darth-Apple - September 30th, 2013 at 10:48 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (6)

First, I'd like to say thank you to an awesome community of members that have made 5,000 posts possible for the community. While I was not able to get some of the planned updates completed immediately after we hit our 5,000 post milestone, I have finally been able to get a few updates in place.

- Pop Up Profiles
We now have popup mini-profiles that show up anytime you click someone's username. If you'd like to go to any user's full profile, just click the "profile page" link on the popup profile.

- Improved footer stats
Take a look. You'll see the difference! Big Grin

- A new alternative theme
Courtesy of Dreadlord, we now have a premium audentio theme installed. Our current theme will remain the default theme, but the alternative theme is available under "Citrus" in your profiles.

I plan on pushing a few additional updates (including some theme-related updates) very soon. Stay tuned! Big Grin
