Star Foo Fighters

Amazing band.

They're my favorite band mainly cause I have so many songs I like by them. Plus the band founder and lead singer, Dave Grohl, was in freakin' Nirvana! Who could go wrong with a band founded by a former Nirvana member?

  Best free MyBB themes?
Posted by: Darth-Apple - September 13th, 2013 at 2:47 PM - Forum: MyBB Related - Replies (4)

MyBB has quite a lot of great premium themes out there, but many people have noticed that it is pretty hard to find really good themes that are free.

2.0 inspired is a pretty good theme. Of course the Apart series of themes is also pretty good, and the Business Device theme isn't bad either. What are your favorite free MyBB themes?

Does anyone actually use the yellow pages?
Posted by: Darth-Apple - September 13th, 2013 at 2:51 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (11)

So every year, I have a brand new, heavy, fresh copy of the yellow pages dilivered to my door. What's odd is that it only ends up getting thrown in the trash every time. I honestly probably haven't looked through one genuinely for years, and google has been more than enough to assist my "needs" for phone number digging.

Does anyone actually still use the yellow pages?

CentOS vs Debian for a server?
Posted by: Darth-Apple - September 12th, 2013 at 5:48 PM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (1)

I must admit, I am a bit lazy and am currently using Ubuntu for server setups. I'm planning to switch to either Debian or CentOS, but I'm not sure which one would be better for a server environment.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of CentOS over Debian?

Does anyone else think Firefox is going through new versions a bit fast?
Posted by: Darth-Apple - September 12th, 2013 at 5:38 PM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (3)

So firefox is now on version 23, and considering that it was only a few years ago that Firefox 4 was released and changed everything, this is a bit odd.

Anyone else think Firefox is going through version numbers a bit fast?

  Funeral For Windows XP
Posted by: Dreadlord - September 11th, 2013 at 4:30 PM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (16)

We gather here in this thread today to remember the beloved Operating System created by windows born under the name "Windows XP" and the successor to windows 2000 & windows ME. It was a good OS with "XP" meaning "eXPERIENCE" because of the enhanced user experience. Born on August 24th 2001 it is sentenced to death as it's extended support ends in April 2014 the exact date is the 8th. Many companies are updating their OS's proving that XP was a well used Operating System.

By January 2006 over 400 million copies were in use but was their bullied by it's brother Vista in 2007 as it towered over XP. Then direct OEM and retail sales of Windows XP ceased on June 30, 2008. However; Microsoft continued to sell their Operating System; XP through their system builders (smaller OEMs who sell assembled computers) program until January 31st in 2009. On April 10, 2013, Microsoft reaffirmed that extended support for Windows XP and Office 2003 would end on April 8, 2014 and suggest that administrators are to prepare to migrate to a newer Operating System.

The NT-based versions of Windows, which are programmed in C, C++ and assembly, are known for their improved stability and efficiency over the 9x version of Microsoft Windows. XP presented a significantly redesigned graphical UI, a change Microsoft promoted as more "user-friendly" than previous versions of the past versions of Windows, improved side-by-side assembly technology in XP allows side-by-side installation, registration and servicing of multiple versions of globally shared software components in full isolation. It is also the first version of Windows to use product activation to combat illegal copying; good job XP.

During Windows XP's development, it was named as a project and codenamed "Whistler", after Whistler, British Columbia as many of the Microsoft employees skiied at the Whister-Blackcomb ski resort.

According to web analytics data generated by Net Applications, Winodws Xp was the most widely used OS until August 2012, when it's younger brother Windows 7 overtook it. As of August 2013, Windows XP market share is still at a fair 33.66%, sadly having decreased almost every month since at least November 2007, the first month for which statistics are publicly available from NE (Net Applications).

And this, we will miss you oh great Windows XP.

I shall now leave you with some pictures in memory of Windows XP.

  MS-cash temporarily disabled
Posted by: Darth-Apple - September 10th, 2013 at 4:58 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (6)

I have recently found that the plugin that we use for MS-cash here at Makestation has a very serious vulnerability and many forums are getting hacked due to it. The developer of this plugin is also a MyBB developer, so this does come as a surprise, but in meeting our first concerns here at Makestation and in protecting user's accounts, we have been forced to disable it for now.

This does disrupt some of our plans here at Makestation, but I will look into identifying the security hole right away. As soon as we get it patched, "monedas" or "MS-cash" will be returning.

I apologize for the inconvenience!

Improvements you would make to the App Store
Posted by: Marc - September 10th, 2013 at 3:42 AM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - No Replies

If you had a chance to tell Apple Inc. some improvements that they could make to the App Store (and they have to do it), what would you tell them?

If it was me, here's my list :

1. Wishlist - I think the App Store's wishlist is only available via desktop. What's the point in not having the ability to add content to your wishlist when using an iPhone or iPad while the desktop can... I personally prefer to browse the App Store using an iOS device. If I find something that I like but can not afford at the moment, I don't want to boot up my computer just to have it added to my wishlist. It just doesn't make sense.

2. Stop upgrades - With the latest version of iOS 6, if I choose to upgrade an app/game, the only way there is to stop it is by deleting the app. I've tried restarting the device - no dice. I tried double tapping on the application's icon. All that does it restart the download. If my device is almost out of storage space and I upgrade an app that consumes 400+ MB of space, I'm forced to remove it or delete several other apps if I wanted to use the 400+ MB size app.

What about you guys?

How much time do you spend preparing a website before launch?

I usually try to take a few weeks preparing a website before its launch. How much time do you spend preparing your websites?
