  IRC clients
Posted by: Acko - June 11th, 2013 at 4:57 PM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (16)

I use chatzilla, personally. However, I have been looking for a good independent IRC client for a while. I know mIRC exists, but it has a time bomb. So any suggestions?

  Ancient windows versions

I've recently acquired a lot of old Windows discs through very legal means (no joking). First of all, here's makestation on Windows NT 4.0:

  Mac or PC?

Personally, I love macs, but at their current pricing they aren't easy to afford, so my vote is PC. What's your preference?

  The general webhost discussion thread
Posted by: Darth-Apple - June 10th, 2013 at 11:15 PM - Forum: Web Design & Internet - Replies (14)

There are literally thousands of webhosts out there. Some are better than others. Have an experience at a webhost you'd like to share, a recommendation, or a warning to fellow admins about which hosts to avoid? Discuss here. Big Grin

So far, the best webhost that I've ever used is Ramnode. Their prices are reasonable, their policies are honest, and their service is good. They also have a great support team, so I'd say it's a win in a lot of ways. They are unmanaged, so you have to be knowledgeable about servers, but it's worth it.

The worst paid host I've ever used is probably dreamhost. They aren't terrible, but they are very slow and have a lot of downtime. Just go to http://hardwiredgoogle.com to see how slow their servers are. Dreamhost has some other features that are pretty cool, but I'd rather have good server performance than lots of features. Tongue

Of course I have had far worse experiences at free webhosts, so I won't complain too much.

  bitcoins
Posted by: Darth-Apple - June 10th, 2013 at 11:00 PM - Forum: Current Events - Replies (18)

Bitcoins are a new form of currency that is becoming popular at a rapid pace. Bitcoin mining is also becoming a popular practice where people collectively work to create hashes using a giant amount of hardware and are awarded bitcoins as a result. The rapid progress of bitcoins has lead to a heated debate over the usage of bitcoins in recent times. Some feel that the electronic form of currency is a symbol of progress, and others feel that technology can always fail, and it is thus unreliable as a currency.

  Chrome or Firefox?
Posted by: Darth-Apple - June 10th, 2013 at 10:11 PM - Forum: Poll Booth - Replies (37)

Personally, I use firefox because it usually does a better job rendering web pages, although the interface and stability of Chrome is much better. What's your opinion? Be sure to vote in the poll!

I went on the Blue Ridge Parkway but we turned around cause it got too foggy.

Also went to this place, it was delicious:

  Microsoft's E3
Posted by: Acko - June 10th, 2013 at 5:10 PM - Forum: Other Games - Replies (17)

So I've just started watching E3, and quite honestly, I cannot STAND watching Microsoft's E3 conference. This is the most I have ever heard the word 'innovation' used incorrectly. Although this was a short rant, I just want to know, if you do watch E3, what do you think of it (particularly Microsoft's block)>
