  New affiliation with Simopsis.com
Posted by: Darth-Apple - June 7th, 2013 at 6:24 PM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

We are pleased to announce here at Makestation that we will now be affiliated with simopsis.com, the place to talk "sim". Simopsis is a forum run by CheeseSC4 and Simlink, and is for many different games, including the Sims, Simcity, etc..., and also is a place for those interested in any kind of architecture and urban design. In addition, the forum also has a strong presence of off-topic discussion, so it caters to a wide range of interests.

If you haven't checked out the SMP community yet, we'd definitely recommend giving it a look. It's a great community with many similarities to makestation, and we are pleased to officially announce affiliation, as we feel very strongly that this will help both communities grow and expand. Big Grin

  Virtual Paradise
Posted by: That Punk Guy - June 7th, 2013 at 4:29 PM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (3)

Virtual Paradise is a multi-player 3D virtual reality "browser", that is in beta and is free to join. It's kind of like Minecraft in a way, but is more creative instead of game-like. It is coded by a Dutch programmer named Edwin Rijkee, but goes by Edwin on the browser.

Here's an office building I'm working on in it, for an example of what it looks like:

If you wanna try it out, signup at http://virtualparadise.org. Be aware that registration is not automatic so you will have to wait before your account is made, as they are manually-made. You should get an email though when it's done. Tongue

  Funny Images Thread
Posted by: That Punk Guy - June 7th, 2013 at 4:03 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (33)

This funny image has a story behind it: so our local FOX station is changing their look and was testing their weather system, but it wasn't supposed to make it on-air, the test, so yesterday FOX 59 said we had a "Blizzard Warning", when there was no snow, and it was early June. LOL

Here's a pic of it (it's huge so click the link):

  Summer 2013 plans
Posted by: That Punk Guy - June 7th, 2013 at 3:50 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

What are your summer 2013 plans?

I'm going to North Carolina tommorow to a cabin in the Smokies. The cabin is pet-friendly too so we're taking my dog (half Beagle, half boxer). Tongue

Do you keep up with the news?
Posted by: Darth-Apple - June 7th, 2013 at 4:31 AM - Forum: Poll Booth - Replies (25)

Personally, I keep up with the news primarily through social media, since TV news is just plain depressing half the time. I don't really mind reading the newspaper, but half of it is stuff I don't need to know either or some other overly detailed documentary of a criminal's jail sentence. Tongue

How much do you keep up with the news? Be sure to vote in the poll!

(discussion) the typical lifespan of a band's golden age
Posted by: Darth-Apple - June 7th, 2013 at 4:22 AM - Forum: Media & Entertainment - No Replies

With thousands of bands to listen to today, it takes many bands years to really make a name for themselves. Then of course there are many bands that become successful, then drop off after a few short years just as quickly as they hit the spotlight.

Many very good bands simply run out of creative ideas after they've hit their perfect album. More often musicians get old and lose the young sense of rock 'n roll. I'd say that few bands are lucky enough to see more than 5-10 years in the limelight of their golden years, with bands like Rush being the exception.. Any thoughts?

Coders: what's your text editor preference?
Posted by: Darth-Apple - June 6th, 2013 at 5:26 AM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (12)

Personally I use notepad++ for most things, and vim for a linux command-line editor. For the coders out there, what's your preference?
