Hello everyone, 

I am back. Long story short, life put me through the ringer. I was unable to log on for the past couple of months and have been dealing with the hardest and most difficult months of my life. The good news is that the worst of it is finally behind me. I will be back in full swing soon. Surgery is done (at the cost of many thousands of dollars), which put me in a very bad situation as I worked to get a number of things sorted out, but everything went well and was a success. My health is recovering and I feel well for the first time in years. 

I am very excited to be able to log on again and to be able to participate once again in a community that I have always loved dearly, one that we have all spent years collectively building. As a community, we have been around for over 8 years, and we will not be going anywhere anytime soon. We still have many exciting things that were in the pipeline before, and these things will continue to be developed and discussed and built today. Our best days are still ahead of us, and our collective love for this community (that has become more than the sum of its parts thanks to many amazing folks here) will never die.

Many thanks to everyone who continues to participate in this community, helping to make it an open place for artists and creators of all kinds! And likewise, many thanks to the staff of this community, who has also helped to run this community and to keep its future bright. We will not die in the winter night. We have been around for over 8 years, and we will be around for years more to come. Big Grin

So I was looking into body cameras and recently got one I thought was worth talking about, it's the amazon recommended choice and I was surprised at how well it works.

this pen camera by leeboom is one of dozens of cheap models made in china and despite that it's actually decent.

Pro's:
sturdy build quality (unusual for china).
comes with everything already
can record up to 2.5 hours of HD video
doubles as an actual pen
is Inconspicuous
Simple operation
Also records audio
Indicator light is on the side of the pen that faces the shirt if in a shirt pocket, opposite the camera and mic. (also doubles as reset switch)
has a sliding camera cover.

Cons:
Minimal help
takes getting used to
camera is a standard HD webcam/cellphone type and doesn't support very low light situations well.
Records in AVI format.
Doesn't appear to have an indicator when things are full so make sure to either carry more micro SD cards or just empty the drive when not in use.
Be aware, when it's full it deletes the oldest file on the drive so again, Empty the body camera of data when not in use.

It surprised me with how well it works despite it's price, $35 USD may seem like a lot, and I got it using my amazon points, however when you consider the above pro's and con's $35 is actually pretty cheap for what amounts to a tiny inconspicuous camera you can wear in situations you may want one in without drawing attention to yourself.

so what do you guys think?, paranoid though it may be, I for one feel a lot better being out in public with the ability to record a situation and prevent false accusations, doubly so as a guy given then #Metoo movement unintentionally caused a bunch of false claims to be mixed in with actual legitimate ones.

Plus it feels a bit like a james bond device, wish I had my own agent Q lol.

alternative uses for this (since it's also a pen) could be things like recording lectures, taking audio/video notes, and of course making records of incidents if you're working with machines or something goes horribly wrong in an experiment.

  [Informational] The 7 basic logic gates (repost)

So some of you might have heard of logic gates, usually regarding transistors and the like.  Well they're actually pretty simple, I'm going to attach a nice diagram that shows the symbol and what they do but I'm also going to explain in detail about them.

1 = has power, 0 = does not have power, logic gates are by nature, binary on/off state switches that use their inputs to determine the output.

AND
And gates... basically if A and B = 1 (has power), then X=1, if either or both = 0 then X = 0

OR
if A or B is = 1, then X = 1, if both are = to 1 or 0 then x = 0.

NAND
Not - And gate, it's a bit more complicated, basically x= 1 if not all the inputs are 1, so if a b and C = 1, then x = 0, but if a and b = 1 and c = 0, then x =1.

Not - Or Gate, opposite of Or gate, x= 1 if a and b = 0, if either or both = 1 then output is 0

This one would be good if you have a video switch and want to prevent cross signal contamination by basically preventing output from 2 if 1 is active and vice versa.

Ex-Nor gate, x=1 when either both inputs are 1 or 1, x= 0 when one input = 0 and another =1

NOT gate, also known as an inverter gate, inputs are inverted so if a=1 then x =0, if a = 0, then x=1

you could replace the Xor gate with a Xnor and a Not gate to invert the state and make x=1 only if the input to the Not gate is 0.  It's Generally easier to use an Xor gate though.

While the charges ("roaming") for mobile phone calls in the countries of the European Union have fallen significantly in recent years and have been completely abolished in some cases, the use of the German mobile phone connection in the USA continues to incur high roaming charges at three euros per minute - it does not matter whether the participant is called or calls himself. A few urgent phone calls with the boss or short vacation reports to those who stayed at home via mobile phone can quickly cost well over 100.00 euros.

Huh What does a SIM card cost in the USA? Which can you recommend?

A 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid sedan caught fire Tuesday night in Haverford, Pennsylvania, while the owner was at the wheel, according to Charles McGarvey, chief fire officer for the Lower Merion Township Fire Department.

Tesla began deliveries of the Model S Plaid, a new high-performance version of its flagship electric sedan, in June, after CEO Elon Musk had said on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast that they would begin in February.

Musk explained in April that development involved “more challenges than expected” and added, “it took quite a bit of development to ensure that the battery of the new S and X is safe.”
