Kim Jong Un may die, according to reports. It’s unknown who will take his place. Various reports offer possibilities including his younger sister or his older brother, and there is talk of the US stepping in to offer humanitarian aid.
North Korea is a country that has a severe lack of good human rights as it is. It will be very interesting to see what happens.

Yeah, kinda hope that it happens, and whoever the successor is let's up a little. I highly doubt it, but one can hope.

I doubt that family will be in charge for too many years longer the way things are now. They probably will be to some extent, but some day people are going to rebel against it. I’m surprised it hasn’t happened yet.

North Korea's method for keeping the peace has been unfortunately effective. If you rebel against the government, every single member of your family is executed. Same for crime. You commit a crime, every single family member is punished. That goes a long way in making people second guess doing anything, so they've been able to maintain the status quo.

I think, that with North Korea so isolated from the world food system, that their stability rests much more on the ability of the population to feed themselves than for almost any other nation. Their wealth isn't rock bottom, yet you hear about them having famines occasionally, like the big one in the 90s from them no longer having the great surpluses of food of the USSR (a feature of that area of the world, not a feature of the Soviet government), or crop failures last year. So, they may someday have a period of instability brought on by insufficient food that isn't rectified by the rest of the world's industrial surpluses, leading to rebellions much like those in much of history around the world. Considering when the regime arose, however, it may not be for a long while yet, unfortunately. Of course, the deaths from starvation are all terrible, but the end of their isolation and becoming part of the much more stable and prosperous wider world would vastly outweigh the harm done by the famine.

Everything is actually said when you write that; Madness in my head:
10 March 2020
Seoul - North Korea fired two unidentified missiles from the city of Wosan on the east coast towards the sea, according to the South Korean Ministry of Defense. They flew 240 kilometers and would have reached an altitude of 35 kilometers, the South Korean military said on Monday. It was therefore short-range bullets.

To prevent rulers Kim Jong-un Coronavirus in North Korea. Reported the first North Korean who has Corona is shot.
Apparently there is no corona in North Korea
Quote: Despite the global spread of the corona virus, North Korea claims that it has so far been spared the pandemic. "So far, no one in our country has been infected with the novel corona virus," said Pak Myong Su, director of the North Korean Epidemic Control Department. In view of the proximity of North Korea to China, where the virus first appeared, the statement from the isolated country is questioned internationally.

North Korean ruler Kim Jong Un is said to be "on the brink of death". Unconfirmed media sources report that Kim is said to be brain dead after a failed operation.

I saw as well. If that's the case, he was likely recuscitated and it probably happened a little too late.

Can't wait to see how this all lays out. Hopefully another chink in the NK armor and a step on the path to reunification.

I read on the news that his younger sister is likely to assume power. I know little to nothing about her, but from what I've seen so far, it looks like this would be good. She would likely do better for the humanitarian efforts there, and certainly would stand up for woman's rights.
That said, pretty much the whole family has been the same way since the beginning. There is no compelling reason to believe that things would necessarily be radically different with her. One would hope, but nobody really knows what's going to happen next at this point.
The contrast between South Korea and North Korea is astounding.

d*** it
After two weeks of absence, there is more and more puzzling over the whereabouts of North Korea's ruler Kim Jong Un. Amid conflicting reports of the sole ruler's health, Kim's alleged private train was spotted by U.S. experts on the country's east coast. In addition, a presidential adviser from South Korea said that Kim was alive and well.

In a satellite image. As someone with some idea of how train logistics work, I imagine that it's just... out of the way.
Tried storing a train anywhere lately? It's not easy.

lt Nord Korea
Sister or brother could follow Jong Un
The successor regulation applies in North Korea: a Kim is followed by a Kim from the same dynasty. Kim's little sister Kim Yo Jong (31) would be an option. Nothing worked without them. According to the Foreign Policy, experts suspect that North Korea is not yet ready for a woman at the top.
“The ideal leader must be a man, because North Korea is a very chauvinistic society, so it implies that it will be difficult, even if the likely candidate is the sister. So I'm saying that she will be the real power behind the regime or the country in the transition period until they find a more appropriate face, which is most likely Kim Jong Chol, Kim Jong Un's hidden brother, »said Go. Biographers suspect that Jong Chol, like his brother, went to school in Bern.

Yea no idea who to believe anymore.
Chances are he’s fine. If South Korea is saying it, he’s probably just recovering from surgery, but we will see. No idea who to believe at this point.
