IRC clients

#1
I use chatzilla, personally. However, I have been looking for a good independent IRC client for a while. I know mIRC exists, but it has a time bomb. So any suggestions?

Hexchat is really nice, and unlike xchat, it's free which is nice. That's what I use.

It was free for only 30 days for me, and then forced me to register. Not sure if I missed something or not when I installed it, but that was pretty annoying.

per Blake's tip, I've went with HexChat. Though it's real... white and I can't stand looking at it sometimes. Are there any themes available?

I'm not actually sure. There may be some themes available, but I haven't seen any yet.

I use the built-in irc client in the opera browser. I've tried chatzilla, and i tried mirc a long time ago, but i didn't like those two.

Oh opera has a built in client? I'll have to check it out. I thought it was a plugin, so that's pretty neat.

And now, I temporarily use cIRC for chrome.

Yeah, it's kind of minimal though. ChatZilla is a plugin for firefox, and is more complex than that.

I actually use hexchat, it comes with the linux distro I use... but i know it's also possible to telnet into an IRC and use a command line, if you are inclined to do that.

so reviving this, does anybody still use IRC?

I use it occasionally when I'm stumped with linux and the usual forums come up short but I know there's still tons of active IRC channels.

I do! Daily. Hexchat is my go to. I'm on freenode and some torrent tracker networks.
