The SMFnew "downtime" discussion thread

#37
Well... look at their track record. They always come back, but they wait like three weeks before they decide to actually do anything. Tongue

I found this too funny.
On the smfnew homepage, I clicked the "games" directory. The message I got? "Please leave : )"

I wonder what they're doing in there, being all secretive and all... makes you question their leadership  :Smile

I'm not sure if the database.xxxx.php files are useful, but couldn't you just right click and 'save target as' if you lost your database? Tongue

It doesn't store the database. It probably either stores the information about how to connect to it, or has functions in code for dealing with it. I haven't looked at it of course, but that's the way SMF does it I think.

Yeah seriously...

My understanding, based on the explanations from previous downtime, is that they use a separate database for each forum. That's a positive at least. (It's really inefficient to do that, but hey, it means less account theft! Tongue )

@Aco: We all do. They are pretty messed up haha. Most of us have had some pretty sour experiences with them. Tongue

I won't either. It doesn't take a hacker to get into stuff in its current condition, but it's simply not the right thing to do, so I won't mess with any of it.

Well, if somebody does have a grudge, assuming those hold the databases, someone could REALLY mess up a site by getting the admin username and password (assuming it's not encrypted).

Passwords on SMF forums are always encrypted, so that won't be happening.

Meh, I just don't care about them. It's honestly getting to the point where it's funny to watch this train wreck unfold... Tongue
