I still don't get football... but I've kinda likened the feeling people get from watching it to the one I get when watching rockets launch and probes land on mars and stuff.

so I sort of understand at least.

Just think of it as a version of Gladiator games and a chess-match played with peoples bodies.... 

It is a very physical game, that requires a lot of strategy. Throw them together, modern gladiator games.
