MyBB 1.9 ?

#1
I think the development of MyBB1.9 has reached a point where the paths will separate. Either the many commits manage to concentrate on one or if it continues as before, 1.9 will be an unfinished one for years to come.
We read a lot in forums, many want to leave the communits again, because too many cooks spoil the broth

I think you’re misinformed.

https://github.com/mybb/mybb/milestones

The current block is the rebate of code from when the branch was created and now. Once that’s done, they’ll be able to work on other things.

Sadly, I don't see any sign of progress there... the only word from any of the staff is "We're at the same point we were at six months ago". Other than that, it's just a bunch of people complaining about the lack of progress, and expressing fears that "This will be the end of MyBB".

It's a real pity, because I still think MyBB has quite a bit going for it (once you add a responsive theme and a couple of plugins). But, I don't blame people for looking at alternative forum software - because, we can't go on like this forever...

We've considered switching to phpBB many times over the past several years. We pretty much take a serious look at it every year and re-assess. The consensus this past March was pretty much to stick with MyBB for another year. Everyone pretty much decided that it still works better than any of the alternatives for us right now, but we will re-assess fairly soon and get an idea of where things stand in the next several months with MyBB 1.9 and otherwise.

We've considered some pretty far-fetched ideas also, such as using Wordpress for the entire website and using extensions to build upon it. We did a test website for the idea a few months back and it worked out much better than I had anticipated. There are some decent forum options and various community extensions for Wordpress, so it's definitely something we have looked into. IP.Board is another one we've considered. Believe me, pretty much nothing is off limits except for vBulletin. Finna

We are very much open to suggestions from the community as well!

AND NO WOLTLAB !! It is important for me that I can still tweak the forum myself and not be controlled by packet-dependent WBB files, such as Woltlab

Don't.

There's more holes in wordpress than there are in anything else.

2020, Jänner
Experts have found serious security gaps in three WordPress plugins. A total of around 400,000 websites could be affected.

Wordpress itself has been very secure in recent years (more so than MyBB by a long shot). MyBB has 3-4 medium+ risk vulnerabilities patched on every update. Wordpress has had very few in the past several years. PhpBB is also quite a bit more secure than MyBB.

The plugins are another story. There are some pretty trash ones out there in terms of security, so we would vet them very carefully before using them. The forums and most of the community plugins would come from official plugins which would significantly reduce the risk there.

I have a long-standing hate for Wordpress and you'd absolutely lose me as a member if you went down that path.

Hello guys, what I am pleased about, there is a good discussion, great that you remain factual! I especially like that here with you.
On the subject of security Wordpress or other software, there is a lot on the Internet, I myself am not a fan of Wordpress, but as always, the basic software would actually be very good, as would Mybb phpbb ... etc., the plugins create uncertainty . Themes etc
