I ended up building my personal home on the server, a farm house a bit away from the spawn.

No, it's not bad. Not a functionality difference at all. 

Just got to revert my client, and then find the time with my wife having all these new-baby tasks for me.

Finally got on. Just a heads up, I spawned in water. Disconnected at first because the screen was all black. When I logged back in, it was daylight enough to see I was underwater and had to swim to the surface.

ok it should be set to -104, 65, 284 which is where the town is at

furthermore I've gone ahead and adjusted some other settings, max world size is 10,000x10,000 for now, the server was slugging a bit and that should be plenty for now lol.

nether should work I never adjusted that.

and everyone should start in creative by default.

also found out that 1.12 isn't "stable" yet for the server host I'm using, soon as that changes I'll let you guys know.

yeah I saw you were building something with roman architecture just south east of the village.

btw a 2nd village has been discovered at the edge of what's been explored so far, it's south of the spawn area past the dark woods!
