Ubuntu searches apparently being sent to third parties - Darth-Apple - January 27th, 2014 This is apparently not breaking news, but Ubuntu's dash searches are getting sent to various third parties to allow Ubuntu to cater advertisements towards you. Sounds innocent, but the idea of getting all sorts of advertisements on my desktop is just eh... I'd almost rather pay for Windows. Ubuntu has great potential, but a lot of their recent decisions seem to have me wondering. If there is a website that is quite literally dedicated to showing users how to disable features that invade your privacy, there is an issue. How do you feel about Ubuntu's recent decisions regarding privacy? RE: Ubuntu searches apparently being sent to third parties - Acko - January 28th, 2014 What next, Ubuntu becoming payware? RE: Ubuntu searches apparently being sent to third parties - Darth-Apple - January 28th, 2014 I'd rather it being payware honestly, over having my privacy compromised? Sure. RE: Ubuntu searches apparently being sent to third parties - Gmdykfuiygh66476 - January 28th, 2014 I'd rather just not use it RE: Ubuntu searches apparently being sent to third parties - Acko - January 30th, 2014 The point is, the direction of Ubuntu's development seems to be going in the exact same direction of Microsoft these days. And that's not a very good one either... RE: Ubuntu searches apparently being sent to third parties - Darth-Apple - January 30th, 2014 Yep. It's kindof dissapointing too. RE: Ubuntu searches apparently being sent to third parties - Acko - January 30th, 2014 In fact I might just say that eventually all software, FOSS or not will be going in this direction. A digital dark age looms. |
