Ubuntu searches apparently being sent to third parties - Darth-Apple - January 27th, 2014

This is apparently not breaking news, but Ubuntu's dash searches are getting sent to various third parties to allow Ubuntu to cater advertisements towards you. Sounds innocent, but the idea of getting all sorts of advertisements on my desktop is just eh... I'd almost rather pay for Windows.

Ubuntu has great potential, but a lot of their recent decisions seem to have me wondering. If there is a website that is quite literally dedicated to showing users how to disable features that invade your privacy, there is an issue.

How do you feel about Ubuntu's recent decisions regarding privacy?

What next, Ubuntu becoming payware?

I'd rather it being payware honestly, over having my privacy compromised? Sure. Tongue

I'd rather just not use it Tongue

The point is, the direction of Ubuntu's development seems to be going in the exact same direction of Microsoft these days. And that's not a very good one either...

Yep. It's kindof dissapointing too.

In fact I might just say that eventually all software, FOSS or not will be going in this direction. A digital dark age looms.
