Advertisers Boycotting Facebook - Darth-Apple - June 29th, 2020

Twitter has taken steps to actively label and censor the president’s tweets (which are usually written in jest and often off the mark). Facebook has historically been much more lenient and has not taken action. Now advertisers are boycotting them.

I was shocked when I first saw twitter censoring his tweets and flagging them, but it has begun to set a precedent for other platforms to follow. Facebook has started aggressively fact checking posts (a move that was needed badly much sooner than it had arrived), and social media is generally cracking down on misinformation.

What are your thoughts on Facebook’s handling of the current events?

I think they need to be more stringent in fact checking this information.

On one hand a private company should not be an arbiter of truth, but Facebook has too much control. Ideally Facebook should be regulated directly. It's just too big and powerful.
