  Xubuntu
Posted by: Darth-Apple - April 25th, 2014 at 6:48 PM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (1)

I currently have my PC dual booted with Fedora, but I haven't really used Fedora all that much. The gnome 3 interface is a bit eh to me. I was looking into Xubuntu, which is a distribution of Ubuntu that uses xfce instead of their unity interface, and it looks pretty interesting.

Anyone here have any experience with xubuntu? Is it something you'd be willing to recommend?

  Omegle!
Posted by: Grimpus - April 25th, 2014 at 6:42 PM - Forum: Media & Entertainment - Replies (1)

Okay admit it... who here sits down and binges omegle for whole nights at a time.. next next next! I have met some awesome people on omegle.
And if you dont know what it is, its a random chat site where you get linked up with anyone from accross the world and you can even see them through your webcam and chat with a MIC. Its one of my favorite websites.
I mean.. Its probably better than your average night out on the town if you know how to do it right.
In order to avoid sexually explicit crazy people I set my interests to:
Philosophy, literature, chat, chatting, talk, conversation, happy, awesome

And whatever else sort of neutral / interest specific things you can come with Smile

  Burning your Literature
Posted by: Grimpus - April 25th, 2014 at 6:28 PM - Forum: Creative Writing - Replies (3)

Burning your literature... Many many times I have spent time writing things and then burnt it, usually if I'm ashamed of it, but also because I see a kind of beauty in embracing the inevitable decomposition of everything. By doing this you are also accepting that the reason you write is purely self-indulgent.
I read a story recently about Buddhists who spend hours making murals out of sand only for the wind to eventually blow them away. Its kind of like sandcastles and ice sculptures too...
Altho, people usually have an Iphone to take a sneaky snaptshot!

Could women do a better job?
Posted by: bench91 - April 25th, 2014 at 1:56 PM - Forum: Current Events - Replies (1)

If you look at the state of the world right now and you look at who is behind it you will see men and behind those men is women doing all the menial stuff. l think that most of us women are more compassionate with the exception of a few (rice and clinton)Big Grin and l truly think we would be more peaceful, some might argue that the power might drive some crazy like it does with the men but l don't think it would. A sisterhood of female leaders looking out for each other would be really cool l think, no war, no starvation and business flowing in all directions but l know that will never happen as the men would not allow itAngry.

  A world free of war?
Posted by: bench91 - April 25th, 2014 at 1:50 PM - Forum: Current Events - Replies (4)

From as far as history goes back there has always been war and it's never been a equal fight, man has always wanted to take over the weaker man and it still goes on today. Can we be ever free from war or is this it forever? so many innocent lives get taken and suffer with the loss of homes and services and it is always seen as part and parcel. What could make all this war stop any ideas?

Pros and Cons of Using a Mobile Broadband Stick
Posted by: RuthB - April 25th, 2014 at 8:22 AM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (2)

The only way I have of connecting my laptop to the Internet is with a broadband connection provided by a phone service, in the form of a USB stick.

The biggest benefit, apart from not needing to have a telephone landline at home, is that I can access the Internet anywhere at any time. Unlike WiFi, I do not need to search for a hotspot or register with a provider.

The second big advantage is the cost, which is very low. I pay only £10 a month ($15) for my Internet usage.

The only downside is I am restricted to how much bandwidth I can use each month. When I go over the limit I am unable to download anything or view video content for the remainder of the month.

Connectivity is usually good and I enjoy constant Internet broadband use for as long as I want every day.

  Windows 8.1
Posted by: Warwick - April 24th, 2014 at 7:28 PM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (10)

What do you think about Microsoft's newest desktop operating system? It tries to blend together a mobile interface and a desktop one, and they don't seem to be working together very well. People are criticizing it because of this. I have it installed on my new PC, and although it is a bit faster than Windows 7, it crashes rather often, and it feels uncomfortable to keep switching from the tiles interface to the desktop...
