  Need some iPhone advice
Posted by: Darth-Apple - July 24th, 2018 at 1:04 AM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (9)

Hello everyone!

So I started a new job at T-Mobile today, and well, they made me switch. AT&T wouldn't unlock my phone, so ya boy ended up with a new phone. My bill is extremely cheap. Like, unbelievably cheap. $43/month for unlimited and that includes a brand new iPhone 8. But unfortunately if I quit, my bill goes up to 107, which is way more expensive than I can really afford.

I have an SE that I was perfectly happy with. It was great. The screen was uncomfortably small but besides that, I was happy. And apparently I can get a 6S for $99 instead of having to finance a $700 phone if I return my new 8.

Is it really worth it to have the 8 over the 6S? I mean, the processor is faster in the 8, but the SE (which I had before) and the 6S have the same processor and the SE was fast enough for me. So I'm considering just getting the 6S instead to avoid really having to finance $700.

What should I do? Like... seriously. Such a dilemma. I have truly fallen in love with the 8 and definitely feel like it's a good phone, but is the 6S still good enough to be worth the price drop?

  Cyberpunk/Cyberpunk inspired Games.
Posted by: SpookyZalost - July 21st, 2018 at 11:18 PM - Forum: Other Games - Replies (10)

wanted to create this thread as a place to talk about Cyberpunk and cyberpunk inspired games.

so to get the ole Bit rolling I'll start, Deus Ex, any game in it's series, anyone played the original?, or maybe you've played human revolution?

I've had the luxury to have physical copies of all 4 because I enjoyed the original and human revolution.
mankind divided is ok, still better than invisible war Tongue

anyone played them? if so what are some of your favorite parts?

Video games considered cyberpunk
Tabletop RPG's considered cyberpunk

Server software was updated. Please report bugs
Posted by: Darth-Apple - July 20th, 2018 at 4:40 AM - Forum: Community Related - Replies (8)

Hey guys!

As you may or may not know, we manage our own server for MS to give us the absolute best flexibility possible for the website. It's part of why our uptime and site performance is always top notch!

The downside is that every now and then a little downtime is needed to upgrade the actual software on the server, for security and stability reasons. I just performed one such upgrade and completely upgraded the operating system and server software, and also updated MyBB to the latest release. The downtime was pretty minimal, but rest assured we are back online! If there are any bugs, please let me know. I fully expect that (as always) there will be a few broken templates with the MyBB upgrade. We will fix them as we discover them.

Also, we just slashed right through 14K as a community in our postcount. Congratulations everyone, and cheers to reaching 15K!

Regards,
-Darth

EDIT: Also, how does the site perform for you guys? I'm within about 500 miles of our server (which is located in Atlanta, GA) and it performs great for me. For our overseas members, any feedback would be much appreciated! I'd be interested in seeing how the performance of our website is for you guys as well.

  As yet unnamed forum project.
Posted by: capnsquarepants - July 16th, 2018 at 5:15 AM - Forum: Software - Replies (9)

So, with the impending doom of ZetaBoards,  I had the itch to build my own forum software, as an exercise to test some ideas I had on database design/coding conventions

I'm using the Yii framework, and adding bits and pieces as I go along.

I've almost completed the backend (I call it the backstage heh), and will be working on the frontend as soon as I get some ideas on how it should look like.

Attached is a screenshot of the administration area.

The sharp-eyed among you will notice that it looks suspiciously like ZB 2.0. I borrowed their colours :p

Any thoughts?

  Tropico - A Citybuilder?
Posted by: Guardian - July 15th, 2018 at 12:49 AM - Forum: Simmania - Replies (9)

Just curious if people consider Tropico a city-builder, or another sort of game.

I only pose the question, because I've noticed a few places where its mentioned that Tropico is too tongue-in-cheek and more management than city builder.

  "zoned Forums theme broken?"
Posted by: SpookyZalost - July 15th, 2018 at 12:31 AM - Forum: Community Related - Replies (3)

Saw the theme in the list so I went ahead and tried it but there was no different, is the theme a joke or just not implemented yet?

thought it would have been funny to go to the technical section and see it turn yellow lol.

  Cybrary - Online Security Training

Has anyone tried Cybrary?

https://www.cybrary.it/

I've heard some good things about it and know a few people that use it. Others say it wasn't worth their time and they always try to sell them stuff they don't need.

Thought I'd share and ask opinions in the same vein.  Cool

Do you setup a SWAP space on your drive?
Posted by: SpookyZalost - July 8th, 2018 at 12:05 AM - Forum: Technology & Hardware - Replies (4)

so... windows does this by default and it's a pain to turn off but I'm curious, does anyone ever setup and or use their SWAP space?

I read a while back that having them on SSD's can actually shorten the lifespan of the drive since they have a limited though still numerous amount of read/write cycles

also that they're pointless on SSD's because... well SSD's.

any thoughts on this?
