Is internet overpriced?

#1
Personally, I think that is hugely overcharged for when it comes to home internet. In the webhosting/server world, it's surprisingly cheap, but for home internet, paying $50/month for a 10mbit connection capped at 40GB/month is a bit overboard. I could easily be missing one of the expense factors for the ISP companies as well, but at first glance it does seem to be overpriced.

What's your opinion?

Yes. America as a whole is overpaying for substandard internet (we have slower speeds than... bulgaria :|)

I often get speeds that average 0.6-1mbps, and I'm not getting "cheap" internet either. The internet is the way of the future. It might as well be affordable. Tongue

The comcast exec fool has said we don't need Google Fiber speeds. Even if we don't, I'd switch anyways because at least Google is known to be reliable.

Honestly we really don't need google fiber speeds right now, but ten years down the road, that might be a completely different story. I agree that google is more reliable in general, so I agree.

Definitely. Hopefully google fiber will cause "inferior" internet prices to go down soon. Tongue

Well, I should go and get 0.5mbps internet then. Perhaps I'll get what I pay for. Tongue

We pay AU$120 for 120 GB at 0.5 MB/ps. Definitely over priced.

Seriously? 120GB isn't bad, but 0.5mbps is ridiculous.

Mine is about 0.6mbps, so I know how it feels. It has been improving a bit lately though.
