Makestation 2021 Changes

#1
Hello everyone,

As many of you know...

We've been hinting at some big changes over the past few weeks. Big Grin

We've actually been internally discussing BIG things since last summer, and have tried a LOT of different prototypes. We've been working behind the scenes for quite some time, and we are finally getting ready to do the biggest facelift in the entire history of this community.

We will be sharing more details over the coming weeks, and want to make everyone a part of everything that will be taking place. We're putting a lot of time into this and will be exploring new limits that are much further than what we've been able to do previously. The purpose of this post is to not only announce the facelift, but to also get open ended feedback and ideas from you guys. We want to know what you'd like to see in this community. If you could take MS in any direction you wanted over the next five years, what would you implement, and why?

This is an open ended discussion for everyone in this community. Although not every idea will be technically feasible (we can't make Facebook 2.0, nor would that be a good thing Finna ), we will be seriously considering your suggestions as we progress. We also plan on implementing a lot of long-overdue fixes and features during this transition, and will make sure it's as seamless and simple as possible.

We will be announcing more details as we progress. Stay tuned!

Sorry for the long delay, there's been a few hiccups along the way trying to get the theme to look right but it's getting there.

just taking a lot longer than expected.

well the plan was to move to another forum software, there's even a mostly finished interface for it but darth and I both agreed that mybb was kind of failing with the next generation version effectively on ice.

among other features in this new software was a lot of cool options like being able to create tables of contents using threadmarks, better integration with various media types, and even some social media integration allowing for a combination of forum and blog format. all without using an external layer instead built into the forum software it's self.

the problem is the theme isn't 100% there yet and tinkering with it is taking up a lot of time but it's for the most part done and working.

on top of that the new forum software has really good support in general which means that security updates and anti-spambot software is much better supported than mybb helping reduce the flood we've been receiving the last year or so.

this coupled with much better support for mobile and variable scale platforms like tablets and ultra HD/4K resolutions is the base that we were working off of, I won't say what software we're planning on switching to but it is in the works, it's just delayed for the moment.

What do you want to switch to?

So what are the big changes?

@Thomas they're on hold for now.

however some new security stuff was just implemented on the back end to push harder against the bot swarms.

we'll see if it works after a few weeks if they get past it or not but it's looking promising so far.

Any reason why they're on hold?

@Thomas because there's unforeseen problems with it that are being worked out.

in the mean time I'm focusing on the current makestation system until the issues can be ironed out.

mybb is quite the old forum software compatibility wise.

Hey everyone, sorry for being annoying, but what about Darth's further development? is there something coming? Is he still working at BAM? Sorry but the whole thing seems a bit strange to me. I actually registered here to get support from Darth Apple for my ignorance with Mybb. It looks like he's not here anymore. Sorry, but a part of me has gotten a little confused and has some doubts about what's going on here. There should be a few words about what is happening where now.

Nothing against Spooky he does a great job here, but has nothing to do with what I wanted, s3_gunzel is gone too .... hm something is not going as expected --

  Thank you LG Tc

Yes, the forum is dead. No matter what they say.

Okay truth time.  Darth has been MIA for a while.  BAM is currently not being developed right now for the same reason.

no the forum is not dead.  there's a lull but it's not dead.  And saying that it's dead is not amusing at all.

Before he left there was plans in the works and a beta version of a Xenforo upgrade that I've still been working on in my spare time.

yes Xenforo, that was the plan to transfer from the aging MyBB to Xenforo which has better support and more secure software as well as plugins which support the intent Darth had before what I can only assume is life got in the way.  Primarily a focus on Projects and Project Journals.

No point in hiding it now since we're way past the planned deployment date.  It was supposed to be a carefully timed and mostly seamless transition.  The prototype is working and most of the planned features are in place however the database hasn't been backed up and transferred to it yet, I have been making regular backups in preparation though.  On top of that the transfer of the database between the two software is only mostly painless and requires a lot of time and finesse.  When it happens there will be a 24 hour notice, as well as the forum being taken offline briefly to complete the transition.

I apologize if BAM is no longer working on the latest version of PHP and I have been going over the source code to try and figure out what broke but that takes time.

There is no cause for alarm or concern.  I just don't have the programming experience Darth Apple does and have been learning as I go to get everything in order.

Unfortunately I have no idea beyond this and appreciate your concern.  I'd like to see him return too and hopefully he will.  In the mean time I ask that everyone be patient and try to understand the situation.  Makestaiton has actually grown a bit since this past fall.  Also if there is anything anyone wants to see added, be it specific features or discussion topics, I'll be more than happy to hear you out and look into the feasibility of it.

Hopefully this clarifies things. And know that I continue to work behind the scenes to try and get everything working smoothly. I joined makestation long ago back when it was far younger than it is now. I care deeply about the community and would like to see it grow and flourish as it once did half a decade ago. But it's a long road with a lot of obstacles that I continue to discover.

to reiterate.

The forum is not dead.

Thank you for understanding.

yes Xenforo, t..........

Hello and good morning, Thanks for the honest answer, and please no secrets or scared or ashamed about anything...
So everyone can orient themselves now. It will be difficult for me now that I continue to rely on Mybb. I also run Xenforo as a test forum, but honestly, so much rubbish and you can't pay for it, then rather Woltlab, it's shitty too, but everyone can do what they want. Mybb and 1.9 will never exist, as far as I think I recognize the course of things, I will continue to keep this version running, ev try to rework everything as well as possible to PHP8.xx. It's a shame that Darth is out, he has perfect MyBB knowledge that helped me a lot. the typical MyBB support forums are hardly helpful because the personal contact that IS SUPER HERE is missing!
And yes, these ping pong games here in the forum, so pretty funny, do nothing for our cause (to improve Mybb)!
Lg TC ps and Makestation death, NO, as long as 2 users post nothing is death
