[Debate] The general chat thread

starter solenoid ?
Reply
@tc4me well the thing is, the starter and the solenoid are usually one part at least here in the states. I had some trouble removing it yesterday so tomorrow I'm going to remove the battery plate to get better access from the top.

fingers crossed it's just the starter.

Well my 85 cabriolet had a different body to the golf and the rabbit. But it's a Wolfsburg.

Pretty sure the Cabrio is specifically the convertible top on the 98.  With a slightly different transmission, engine tuning, and handling set-up.

Visually though it's very similar to the rabbit and golf of the late 1990s.

As for u.s. vs Europe.

I've tried to get just the solenoid but they don't sell that part separate here.  Just the starter with solenoid already attached as one module.

No idea if that's the same there.

So those bolts are really really tightly on there. I pulled a muscle trying to get them to loosen.

I'm going to give it another go on sunday with my breaker bar to give me more leverage.

Unfortunately last night some jerk smashed the rear window of that car so I need to fix that now too.

SMH.

Yeah, it's never happened before and I'm on good terms with the neighbors so I can only think it was a random act of vandalism from one of the people in the trailer park.

@Clayton Is it diesel, Gasoline, Hydrogen, or electric?

I figure it's probably one of the first two but the latter two aren't impossible.
