Apple rejects Email App “Hey”

#1
Apple is pretty much being accused of anti-competitive practices once again. This time, they rejected an email application for not allowing users to sign up for their $99 annual email service from within the app. This is completely understandable for the app developer because Apple charges a 30% fee for in app purchases. It’s a bit of a steep price to pay.

What’s concerning is that Apple has made exceptions in the past, but they failed to do so here. I understand their desire to profit from in app purchases, but users of “hey” aren’t signing up for app features. They are signing up for an email account that has nothing to do with Apple, and the app is simply a client. It seems a bit greedy on Apple’s part.

What are your thoughts?
