Description I wrote up:
Quote:SurfCat, from SurfCat Software, is a minimalistic WebKit-based web browser aimed at older PCs, and computers prone to exploits (such as being a public use computer). It is aimed to use less than 128MB of RAM for one window, and does not come with Java or Flash support for extra security. To eliminate some RAM/CPU usage, SurfCat does not support plugins either. It also has a built-in "Internet Terminal" mode, to lock down a PC to just the browser, with a password required to unlock it. SurfCat will only work on Windows for now, with Linux support coming soon. There are no plans for official Mac OS X support.

I like the concept. Most people are using newer PCs these days, but there is a large audience of people who are using pre 2K computers, and it might be useful to some of those users for sure.

Yeah, it's a good concept.
I mainly did it because I got the idea from trying to fix someone's malware-ridden PC - the system was so slow, I couldn't launch Firefox (this was a few years ago) to download the required tools to remove the malware. I thought "why not make a minimalistic browser for older PCs and situations like this?".

Was it an older version of firefox? Nobody really uses the older versions of firefox, but yeah I agree, the newer versions are a bit resource intensive.

I believe so.
I've got Visual Studio 2010 launched so once I get Cygwin on here, I'll start coding some more. 
Oh and the VS2010 copy is from MSDN, not an Express edition. I <3 MSDN.

Yeah, they're still offline, re-building the whole dev site, so SurfCat development is delayed.
Webkit Nightly needs the Quicktime API to compile so we cannot work on it until Apple's devimages site is back.

UPDATE: We have recieved a VPS to host the SurfCat website on, from http://premiumvm.com. Expect a site to be up by Friday.

I'm not sure if it's just my network connection, but the website isn't loading from my end for some reason.

Sounds like a good idea. Will SurfCat work on other OS and hardware platforms (specifically, UNIX/Linux and sparc)? Also, will your browser be Open Source?
