Honestly, so many businesses are competing for being "the best" - whereas creative methods as shown in the article aren't necessarily terrible ideas. Ling's Cars is pretty widely known as one of the worst websites in the world, and it's totally on purpose. They get quite a bit of traffic simply from being acclaimed as one of the world's worst. It works out well for them apparently. They are actually a 100% legitimate business, and apparently a pretty successful one at that. What are some of the most "interesting" marketing campaigns you've ever run across?
