I think marijuana should be legal, even though I am not a smoker.
If cigarettes and alcohol are legal, why can't marijuana be legal?
I have always wondered that.

Interesting debate.
Really, alcohol is a drug as well in a lot of ways, since it has the same power to make someone "high" as ordinary drugs do. Of course I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs, so I'm relying on secondhand information here.
I think that marijuana should be legal when it is being used for medical purposes. Beyond that, I feel like it has enough of a mild-altering effect that if someone is just using it to get high, it can hurt their standing in society. I personally feel that most of the restrictions regarding it should remain for that reason, but that's just my opinion on it. Honestly there are other substances that aren't restricted enough, so that has to go into account as well.

Well, I think the reason it was criminalized was very criminal. The cotton industry managed to bribe the gov into banning hemp (a variety of cannabis), which, in turn, made marijuana illegal. That kind of bribery should NOT be allowed, it's a government-supported monopolizing of a product :|.

I support legalizing marijuana. Smoking is a lot worse for you than weed is, and alcohol is dangerous too. And I agree with aco, that's just plain ridiculous.
