Archive of Ancient Computer Textfiles - SpookyZalost - February 28th, 2019 hey so I recently re-discovered this site, thought I'd share it here. basically this is a distilled archive of computer knowledge from zeens to usenet to places like the now defunct TOTSE (temple of the screeming Electron) of which I was a proud member a decade ago. http://www.textfiles.com/directory.html feel free to browse through it, there's tons of interesting stuff, and a lot of "lost" knowledge my favorite is the cyberspace sub section. it's kinda neat to see what sorts of things were being done in the 90's and early 2000's... for example, someone managed to hook up a nintendo power glove to a serial port, and make it work with the sega master system VR glasses for visual input XD now granted that seems quaint and archaic now thanks to oculus and such but back in 2010 that would have still been state of the art. RE: Archive of Ancient Computer Textfiles - Guardian - February 28th, 2019 This is great stuff! The Makestation historian strikes again. RE: Archive of Ancient Computer Textfiles - SpookyZalost - February 28th, 2019 @ guardian, I highly recommend this one for darth http://www.textfiles.com/computers/CYBERSPACE/inkeeping-cyberspace RE: Archive of Ancient Computer Textfiles - Guardian - February 28th, 2019 Oh... jeez. There's some good stuff there, but also some cringeworthy stuff. Fodder for the Ancients! RE: Archive of Ancient Computer Textfiles - SpookyZalost - February 28th, 2019 remember, this was 90's era community building rofl XD wow... to think it took 30 years to get to the point that this is now feasible but it was being discussed way back in the early 90's. http://www.textfiles.com/computers/CYBERSPACE/snoswell.cyb a cyberspace protocol concept for VR internet... I've used a VR web browser before but it was fairly simple lol. RE: Archive of Ancient Computer Textfiles - Lain - March 1st, 2019 https://www.hackcanada.com/ also has some good archives of older textfiles and PDFs. I remember reading through a sizeable portion back last Summer, since I had lots of free time. Although lots of the tech-related stuff is mostly outdated, and some of the more archaic/esoteric magick-related stuff is mostly bullshit, there is a decent amount of wisdom to be found. RE: Archive of Ancient Computer Textfiles - SpookyZalost - March 1st, 2019 woah, awesome! yeah it was in an archive of an old zeen like that where I actually learned how to hex edit a dos terminal to always display green text on black background unless the display is monochrome white/black. RE: Archive of Ancient Computer Textfiles - zoldos - March 6th, 2019 hahaha Nice. I also like the "Way Back Machine" site. RE: Archive of Ancient Computer Textfiles - SpookyZalost - March 6th, 2019 yeah that place is useful for digging up the ghosts of the dead and nearly lost. |
