Online library of native language - Electric2Shock - July 30th, 2014 I'm not from an English-centric society and most of India's literature comes from Sanskrit and its daughter languages. Most of India's mainstream languages have their books published and for sale online. My native language, Assamese, isn't exactly mainstream as people call it, some even dare to call it a subscript of Bengali. (The hell?) It has very little share of its literature for view online. If someone wants to look up an English book online, just f***ing google it. The same can't be said for Assamese. Tech students have a lot of scope from this region, but they are either too caught up in their own ambitions or are too scattered to start up something. Nobody would take the initiative without backing first. My idea is that I want to create a central platform, something of a Dictionary of Assamese books and Literature, where we can list as much books as possible, along with the option of e-commerce (possibly) and expert reviews, both in English and Assamese. This idea wouldn't get far without proper backing and resources. What do you think of this? Should I give a try on gathering up tech junkies and start or let it get sown without water? RE: Online library of native language - Darth-Apple - July 30th, 2014 First, your english isn't bad considering it's not your native language. I'm impressed considering foreign language was never something I could successfully pick up (or rather, was never something I had the energy to truly dedicate myself to. ) I think it's a great idea, personally. Finding the right backing would probably be the tricky part. I've never been good at really getting a following on my projects, so I can't offer suggestions in that department. E-commerce might be a complicated start. I'm assuming that if it's difficult to google/obtain information on literature, it's probably not easy to find places to obtain the literature itself? In any case, starting from an e-commerce standpoint would probably be a bit ambitious, but if there is demand for it, it might become popular. RE: Online library of native language - CapTon - July 30th, 2014 This isn't a half bad idea, but I'm not sure how you would be able to find all the literature unless you really dug for everything you would need. As I said, this idea has come up, I'm sure, but left isolated. Finding a lot of literature isn't a lot of hard work. I have many people who can help me with that. |
