Trailer for an idea I've been working on. |

what you just saw was a trailer I made on a whim for an idea I've had for a while, it's still sorta on the back burner and I've written a lot of different scripts and ideas for it but in it's current iteration it's basically this:
"told mostly as shorts Underground is about a person who's trapped in a video game with various video game tools and abilities but is essentially trapped being forced to follow the will of the player, a godlike being who not only wrote the game but interacts with the player through various means. there is no-one else there that knows that this is a video game, and the player is mostly viewed as hostile to the various entities present, the goal? Survive and escape."
and that's basically the idea there, I've got about 10 episodes written up now but I've not only not had the time but had difficulty with finding good locations for it... also my video editing needs a lot of work lol.

WebFlow - "Design and develop at the same time" |

Has anyone here heard about webflow? I just tested it out, after not really understanding it and to be honest I'm especially surprised at how well it runs! It's almost like photoshop in a browser - that automatically outputs your designs into code! Sounds crazy right?
If you do design in photoshop or the like, and you haven't checked it out yet I think you should, it could really help in certain situations!

Respect must be earned |

As I am certain we can all relate, we have all had some less than stellar bosses. Or less-than-stellar people that we are somehow supposed to look up to in life. And I suppose that in leadership, well, there are two styles. There is the hard-a** go getter style of assimilating dominance via any means necessary, and there is the more, well, earned approach. And among the good leaders who have earned their respect, I have come to observe that many of them had no innate desire to lead whatsoever, and merely by their example alone, built a pathway towards the respect of those around them and eventually towards good leadership. It begins within.
I don't believe that anyone should just be respected because they demand it. Sure, we have superiors in life, but people will do 10 times more for someone they truly respect as opposed to someone they are merely supposed to listen to.
Anyone else have experiences with bad management or superiors? Feel free to share.

Play by post RPG, thoughts? |

so now that we're generating more activity here at the site I wanted to make a proposal given how popular the forum games section is...
would anyone be interested in a play by post forum game?
this would be a role playing game played here on makestation where one person is the DM/GM and the other people are players in the game, events are dictated by dice rolls, and the narrative is driven by the actions of the players.
if you are interested what sorts of settings would you prefer, anything specific, or maybe just a style?

Anthony Bourdain contemplated suicide but said daughter gave him reason 'to live' in one of his final interviews
Anthony Bourdain spoke about having "things to live for" and feeling "reasonably happy" in what would be one of his final in-depth interviews before his death.
The celebrity chef was found dead of an apparent suicide early Friday morning in his hotel room in France. He was 61.
Bourdain told People in February he felt "some responsibility" to "at least try to live" after welcoming daughter, Ariane, now 11, with ex-wife Ottavia Busia in 2007.

Cities: Skylines Park Life |

Got the new Park Life mod for Skylines, and it does add some nice new features to the game. My only issue is the parks, specifically the theme park, have limited amounts of attractions. The theme park is rather dull when you max it out IMO.
Anyone else try it yet? Or plan to?
Quote:The stars of Parklife are new props and buildings for parks, zoos, amusement parks, and nature reserves, making them more unique and interesting. Pretty new unique buildings, fireworks, and walking and bus tours are in too. And city managers get new policies and tools for managing parks.
Also out now is update v1.10. It adds new park props, new types of tree (Corsican pine, yew, sugar maple, and Chinese windmill palm), and new rocks so all players can spruce up their green spaces, whether they buy the expansion or not. You can now use trees to reduce noise pollution too. And… many other bits, pieces, tweaks, and fixes.

ISP's and the CSR's that ruin your day. |

if any of you have ever had comcast you'll know what I'm talking about.
your internet is slow, or it's throttling, or hell your ping is routing through a million servers instead of going along the shortest route just because.
then you call your ISP, deal with 10 minutes of an automated machine trying to figure out what your problem is (worse if you aren't technically minded despite being designed for the layman).
and then you wait on hold for 30 min only to hear (insert indian/chinese/spanish/whatever terrible unintelligible accent) "thank you for calling customer support my name is, (insert american sounding name here), how can I help you today?"
you then spend 20 minutes trying to get the guy to understand your problem only to hear that he wants to reboot your router remotely, something you've already tried, bonus points if you did the ping test and all that... not that he'll care.
and finally when he sees the problem he tells you, "I'm sorry but I need to send this to tier 2/3/another department, they will call you back."
and they never do.
it's not always this bad but comcast is truly notorious, just look at their support forums, or read their twitter feed, it's awful!.
unfortunately with ISP's monopoly is the name of the game, want decent internet speeds and snappy load times, you have 1 option, maybe 2 if you are lucky.
they can afford to cheap out on support to save a few bucks, because they know you have no choice if you want decent internet.
oh and don't try asking for an English speaking or American representative, they get real touchy about that one lol.
I actually work as a helpdesk person, in the US, for the US post office as well as one of the subsidiaries of the DOD, so I know how customers should be treated, but what I get from my ISP is just... it's a mockery of the job and makes me a bit miffed.
anyone else have an experience like this?
feel free to post it.
