Many countries are involved in the construction and operation of the rover, including Austria: Research institutions in Graz and Vienna have supplied software for one of the cameras. This evaluates their images three-dimensionally in a completely new way. Geochemist Christian Köberl (University of Vienna, Natural History Museum) wants to examine the images for traces of meteorite impacts. In addition to a lot of technology, "Perseverance" also has three fingernail-sized data chips on board with the names of eleven million people who were collected after an online call ("Send Your Name To Mars"), as well as a commemorative plaque for the corona pandemic.
