What music store do you use? - Darth-Apple - January 27th, 2014

I'm currently looking for an alternative to iTunes, primarily because the idea of paying $1.29 for a track I could probably get for 99 cents doesn't sound that appealing to me.

What music stores do you use? Are there any that could be recommended over iTunes?

I buy all my music from *beeeeep* because they have pretty much everything!

I'm reluctant to use the itunes store on my phone because I'm hoping the digital media rights won't restrict it from being played on other devices. I like to burn CDs for the car because the aux jack doesn't work.

I usually listen to Youtube recently as I have grown a liking towards dubstep, and other types of electronic music but don't really have a favorite electronic artist.

If it's a pop or rock song, I use Beats Music. Owned by the Beats headphone company, it's basically one of those "pay $10 a month" services for access to their music library. I like it better than Spotify cause of how Spotify is slowly trying to become a social network of sorts.

Used to use Yahoo music and then Napster, however both were eventually sold to Rhapsody and folded into their service, leaving the Canadian wings of those services to shut down. So as of now, none.

I was excited about a streaming service from HMV, but it appears to have morphed into an itunes type store since I last looked. Dang.

I stream all my music from Amazon Music for $9.99 a month. There's almost nothing I've not found so far! Big Grin

I'm thinking of trying a hifi Tidal subscription. Anyone use Tidal?

I just stream Pandora. Can't remember the last time I bought music individually.

How's Tidal work?

It's like Spotify, music on demand. Pick and choose what you want rather than Pandora's radio.

if we're talking digital music steaming, I actually use amazon music, I used to use spotify but amazon music had more of the artists I wanted.

Bandcamp only. Gotta support small artists that haven't made it to the big names yet.
Also lots of them have physical copies like tapes and records, so I can always get those too.

Long, long ago, in a galaxy right here, Pandora used to be indie only.

In the very beginning they couldn't afford the big names, so they used only people trying to get their music out there. I loved it then, no ads. Now I have to pay for that.  Tongue

Tongue ever consider bandcamp?

I like them because it allows a lot of indie artists to make money without getting record companies involved  Cool

I'll definitely have to look that up. Never been a fan of middlemen.
