Android vs. iPhone - Darth-Apple - September 2nd, 2013

Personally, I have to say that I prefer the androids. The iPhones are very nice, but they are also expensive and seem to be less flexible overall than the androids, so I feel like the android is overall a better option.

What is your opinion?

Well, I don't prefer one operating system over the other. They both have their pros and cons.

As far as devices go.. The Android smartphones and tablets are on the cheaper side, while iPhones and iPads are very expensive. I own a Nexus 7 tablet and an iPad 4 and they're both great devices. I don't use my Nexus 7 much these days because it lacks storage space and there's no microSD card slot (not to mention that it's full). I use my iPad more because I want to stock up on the latest episodes of Naruto Shippuden to re-watch (the good battles) and the iPad gives me 64 GB of space to do so.

When I purchased my Nexus 7, it was only available in a 16 GB capacity model (and 8GB, but two large Android games and your available storage space is gone). Now, there's a 32GB model. I might upgrade to the next gen Nexus 7 (it should have better specs) later on or the Nexus 10. The Nexus 10 is a powerhouse and the screen is larger. It also has a microSD card slot because Samsung made the thing.

I am locked into apple products

I saw a jailbroken 4S running iOS7 yesterday

It looked OK

I worry that Google features will surpass Apple's soon.

But Apple have ONE system and Google is fractured across a lot of different handset makers

I follow the This Week In Tech podcasts - and its never totally clear the best way forward - the tech pundits seem to favor Android at the moment...

I just want it faster and a longer life battery

I use a Mophie Juice pack to keep my phone in charge all day..

I am waiting and watching

I think I will give Apple on more year.. and will get the new iPhone as soon as it is out (I want the 4G speed)

RE: Android vs. iPhone - Darth-Apple - September 6th, 2013

Oh the iPhones are coming out with 4G soon? Nice! Big Grin

RE: Android vs. iPhone - Hoolio - September 6th, 2013

Yes - existing iPhones in UK can't do it except for one network "E everywhere" I don't have that

RE: Android vs. iPhone - Darth-Apple - September 6th, 2013

Ah, well it's definitely good that the new ones are coming out with it. That's a huge improvement for the product line for sure.

I don't like how limited the iPhone is. I got my Anroid over a year ago and love it. I just finished flashing it with Cyanogenmod a few days ago which greatly improved the speed.

That has been a trend for Apple devices for a while. I really hate how Apple seems to hate flash so much, but HTML5 is becoming a solution to that problem anyway.

I think that's because of how easy they are to use and how the typical user doesn't care to do anything more than push a button.

I have an Android phone, but personally I think the Apple devices are superior because the software and hardware are better integrated. I also think the hardware is higher quality than Android phones. But I'll stick with Android because it's more affordable, and it's open-source so there's more variety in 3rd party software. I don't want to get on an expense data plan once I leave Sprint. Can't wait for the next Nexus device Smile!

O2 network have 4G operational on iPhone 5S's now

I am excited to get one!

RE: Android vs. iPhone - simlink - October 4th, 2013

Recently upgraded to Jellybean on my phone and ICS on my tablet (which is the last available for it...) - very impressed so far.
A few hiccups on my phone, though nothing usually major.

My tablet is a LOT faster now. It's awesome. Big Grin

The 6 definitely looks interesting. Supposedly it will be a lot more scratch/shatter resistant.

Are you currently using the 4 or the 4S?

I have 5c. Overall I love it, other than the battery life. :/

Yeah, the iPhones don't have the greatest battery life in general. I'm running on an old iPhone 4 and the battery is old and worn out, so I only get about an 1 to 1 1/2 hours of actual use before it's dead. It will last the day if I'm letting it stay idle though.

RE: Android vs. iPhone - CapTon - August 3rd, 2014

I prefer Android phones. They are more efficient and do not have as many bugs. They may not have many apps available, but efficiency comes before apps.
