I found this on the MyBB official forums, and thought it was definitely a very interesting myBB theming project. I figured I'd share the link. It's a must read for all myBB users for sure.

I read of this when I started designing Simopsis Penguin. None of it really made its way to penguin, but could in the future as future versions are made. I especially hate the MyBB "No Permission" page. So vague.

I'm currently designing a myBB theme for makestation, and I've also tried to pay attention to keeping it simple for the user. It's hard to do too much when you are working with CSS and templates only though. Even what the guy did with the profiles is something I am fairly sure requires PHP editing. I've managed to redesign the profiles on my theme without it, but it doesn't look nearly as awesome.
Hopefully MyBB 1.8 will fix some of this

That's quite interesting. I can see how this would work for people who are new to forums or something, but for me I couldn't tell the difference in "dumbing down" mybb.

Although people familiar to MyBB won't have issues using it, my favourite thing is the editor changes, and profile changes. The UCP has waaayyy too many options, IMO.

Yeah, I definitely love what he did there. THe UCP and the profiles are probably the most primitive parts of the default myBB design.

I hate the myBB UCP too. Just so cluttered and primitive.

I'm hoping they address it in 1.8 - I haven't looked into their roadmap to see if they are recently. Or at the very least in 2.0...
